Wainscoting is a wonderful way to really spruce up your walls and provide the detail and color contrast you are looking for.

Wainscoting generally comes in panels. Some wainscoting has the beaded board texture/pattern, and some are just panels with decorative molding designs. Wainscoting can be used in just about any room in the house, but are most popular in bathrooms and dining areas.

Wainscoting isn't too difficult to install with precise measuring and cutting (which you may want done by a contractor), and the right materials, which you can find where wainscoting panels are sold.

Wainscoting is great to add to your walls for detail, but from personal experience, it great for remodeling. We had outdated ceramic tiles in our bathroom that we did not like. We took down all the tiles and covered the area where the tiles were with the wainscoting panels, which went about halfway up the wall.

That saved us a ton of work because we didn't have to replace or repair the drywall. Then we capped the top edge of the panels with a decoartive moulding, and the bottom edge with trim. After the measuring and cutting, the installation was done with constuction adhesive and panel nails.

Wainscoting comes in different stains of wood, or can be painted. The type we have has a white finish that doesn't need painting. Our wall above the wainscoting is painted a sage green which really is a nice contrast with the white. The wainscoting really brightens up the room, and has been very easy to care for and keep clean.
