Furniture Arrangement Ideas How to Arrange Furniture to Create a Fabulous Room
Looking for furniture arrangement ideas? Well, we've got some.
The truth is the placement of your furniture will have a huge impact on how you view the room, how you feel when you are in the room and how functional the room will be.
Many people are unhappy with the way a room looks, and they often blame the furniture and go out and buy new pieces.
The problem may not have been the actual furniture but how it was arranged in the room. Here are some furniture arrangement ideas to help you with the placement of your furniture within your home:
It is a good idea to rearrange your furniture every six to twelve moths so that your carpets don't wear in the one place and your furniture isn't subjected to sun damage. Just moving your furniture around will make the room look fresh and new.
Before you move a single thing, draw the room to scale on paper, draw approximate shapes of your current furniture, also to scale. You can then arrange and rearrange the room on paper until you are happy with it.
Find the focal point of the roomthis is something that catches the eye as soon as you enter the room and is often the largest thing in the room. It might be a fireplace, a window with a view, a built-in bookcase, a painting or a large piece of special furniture. The focal point is the starting point for all the other furniture to radiate from.
The furniture in a sitting room should promote conversation and make eye contact easy. Define the seating areas of the room by using floor rugs, even if you have wall to wall carpeting. Try to have a table handy to each seat in the room. The color scheme of any room that is used for relaxing or quiet conversation should be neutral tones with accents of colors taken from upholstery, art work, vases etc.
When deciding on a new placement of furniture, position the largest pieces first. Pieces that support these main pieces are the next ones to be arranged; for example, side tables in a sitting room or chairs in a dining room. Remember, in a dining room, all the chairs don't have to be arranged around the table. If you have a spare space of wall, a dining chair would look good placed there, especially if you have matching carver chairs.
Keep in mind the traffic areas of a room and allow for a free-flowing space. Keep doorways clear for easy access.
Place chairs at an angle, sofas across corners of the room and coffee tables and rugs at an angle to prevent the finished room looking too boxy and angular. This concept also works well in a bedroom - there is no reason why a bed should not come out from the corner of the room, if space permits. It creates a luxurious and spacious feeling to the room.
If the room doesn't feel right to you, change the furniture placement.
Be prepared to experiment with different furniture arrangements. Look through magazines for the latest ideas.
Most rooms can be decorated in a number of ways and there is no reason why you should live with the same arrangement for years on end.
